Slow and Steady Doesn't Win this Race

We started the morning bright and early when the alarms went off and I was like a child screaming “5 more minutes!”…so I took a half our instead hahah J after some sleeping in we got dressed and ate some breakfast European style…there was cheese, jams, breads, cereals, and espresso machines (which should become a normal thing to see in the U.S. because they are amazing!)

We loaded onto the bus for a long busy day ahead…our first stop was a tiny museum in the Montjuic…we saw Goya’s artwork for a rushed 20 minutes and then went across the street to the Catalunya National Museum of Art…the building itself was amazing it sat atop a mountainous hill with stairs and fountains leading down in front of it…it was broken into 4 various parts: romantic, gothic, and 2 modern (bossoc) parts…we split in to two groups of 25 and were shuffled along the way…Armondo Jr. was our group leader and having an art history background
was rather helpful…he describe the different parts of the different time periods…gothic churches were pointy at the top while romantic churches have domes…also as paintings became more recent they developed perspective around the renaissance period…the gothic paintings were more of a comic strip telling the story while the romantic paintings had a large Jesus at the top with two fingers pointing up in a teaching way and then was surrounded by various priests, disciples, and other religious figures; however, Jesus was always the largest figure in all of these paintings…also during the romantic period Jesus was given the proportions of a man rather than a baby which skewed proportions and faces were painted without much emotion…the gothic area being later was more prone to having emotions through people’s faces and babies were in more proportional increments…not much information was picked up in the last two areas because I was mentally drained from walking around and getting so much information in one sitting….

After the museum we went around the back to see the Olympic Village where the 1992 Olympics were held in Spain…it was interesting to see although we were not there longer than 5 minutes…we took a snap shot of the grounds and torch before being herded into the bus…it was extremely windy through that area and has since gotten windier all together sending chills down my spine
hahaha J

With my brain fried and my stomach growling, we dropped off the individuals who wanted to hit the town at the statue of Christopher Columbus located across the docking area of cruise ships…everyone except the Nebraska and NAU school groups exited the bus which was hysterical to see (I guess we were the only ones who wanted to eat the lunch at the monastery, that we paid for and is then in my mind FREE!, and take a siesta)…the lunch was bread, salad, wine, water, then a course of pasta in a meat and tomato sauce (which I ate hungrily), steak flanks and French fries, and then yogurt for dessert (really?)…the French fries made me laugh….

I then headed to my room full and satisfied to catch an hour nap which then rejuvenated me into having the strength to finish homework while everyone else took to exploring the town (something must be mentally wrong with me…school work…town…school work…shopping…and I picked school work)

After my school work was complete it was time for dinner which was bread, water, wine, a potato with some kind of pastry puff wrapping and snap peas, salad with breaded fish (which I opted not to eat since eating a massed produced fish at this place would give me the heebee jeebees), and dessert was ice cream and yogurt…all in all it was alright and freeish J

We then hopped on the bus and went back over to the National Museum to watch the fountain light show which was soothing and spectacular…the museum looked as stunning as it did in the daytime…a halo of lights surrounded the top of it and then the fountains in front were lit up to give it a welcoming feel…there were tons of people walking around watching and getting ready to hit the night at the streets…

I grabbed a mojito and walked around the area until it was time to head back to the monastery…I along with Ivy, Alicia, and Alyssa decided to call it a night and the four of us out of the 50 people that came with us to Barcelona went back, showered, and called it a night…everyone else went to the bars around downtown that were flooding with people…hope no one throws up on the bus ride tomorrow hahahahha J
The wind was blowing quite fiercely today…and no wonder with all the sites we got to see and the places we conquered…it has been a fun time in Barcelona and with my last night here the weekend is slowly coming to an end…tomorrow we have a few stops to make and then its back to our little home away from home <3
